Cookies for the Bridge Tenders
As has been the custom for many years, on Friday following the Holiday Party, VSS contracted with Santa Claus and two of his reindeer (only two are needed for local deliveries) to deliver cookies to the bridge tenders near Venice for the good turns and lifts they have given us.  The recipients were the six bridges from Blackburn Point to Manasota Beach Road.  A click on any of the small pictures below will produce a larger version.

Holiday Dinner-Dance at Boca Royale
It has been reported that this annual event came off as planned on December 12, 2007, and that a good time was had by all.  The webmaster has no evidence, photographic or otherwise, to verify the reports.
Christmas Boat Parade
The "5th-annual-absolutely-last-boat-parade" party was held, as usual, at the Groh's home in Harbor Lights on Saturday December 1st.  VSS did not have an official entry but, despite that, three VSS member-owned boat participated.

Walt and Pat Hickson entered their Sanderling 18 Just Right, which they also did last year.

John Lynch's C&C 36Summertime was entered by the non-profit educational foundation Aquarian Quest

Jim Liston's J/105 Cat's Meow was entered by the Venice Youth Boating Association

Steak & Sail

Mission Accomplished!
The first of our scheduled annual events, the Steak & Sail at South Lido Park in Sarasota was held on Sunday October 28th, having been delayed by one day.  The weather was quite nice, providing a great sail up in the afternoon and a pretty nice one home in the evening.  The temperatures were quite comfortable with a pretty consistent cloud cover.  As usual, the steaks were excellent as were the side dishes.  With the notable exception of Alex Whalen's finger being broken in a windlass, the event came off with no big hitches and good time was had by (almost) all.  Seven or eight boats came to the event, and the rest of you came by car.
