Hi from Tapestry,
We finally left. After staying in Catragena all week, we dropped our lines
at 7 this a.m. and motored out of the harbor. Never mind the winds are
northeast at 15 to 20, as they have been all week and that we are going
northeast, we have places to go and things to see. So out we went. We tried
to
sail, but progress was terribly slow, then we tried motorsailing, but the sails
flapped when we headed for Ibiza and we soon hauled down the sails. So, we're
motoring right into it. Tapestry climbs up one wave and plunges down the next.
The Spanish flag at the spreaders is straight back. Occasionally one of the
big fellows slides right over the bow, and gushes up the windshield before it
disperses on the pilothouse roof. We are warm and dry inside, and happy to find
no leaks. This is the first real salt water bath Tapestry has had this year.
We will continue through the night and should arrive late tomorrow morning.
We
have 68.5 nautical miles to go before we reach St. Antone on Ibiza. If we can
maintain this speed it should be about 13 hours from now, or about 9:30 tomorrow
morning. Hopefully the wind will abate when the sun sets, about 9:30.
Our one bit of excitement today was crossing the prime meridian. At 5:30
this afternoon, our G.P.S. longitude readout went from 000.00001W to 000.00001E.
So now, technically, we are in the Orient! Happy Memorial Day.
